Garalis Organic PDO Limnos Limnio
Garalis Winery, Limnos, Aegean Islands
Garalis Winery began producing wines in 2007 in the main viticulture zone of Limnos, in the area of Kourouni near the village of Agios Dimitrios. The estate was founded by Manolis Garalis and Maria
Markaki as a family project rooted in long-standing local vine-growing traditions, and today works primarily with the island’s two historic varieties: Muscat of Alexandria and Limnio.
All vineyards are cultivated organically across volcanic and well-drained soils, with many vines exceeding 45 years of age. The climate of Limnos — warm, dry summers with cooling sea breezes — aids disease-free ripening and supports both aromatic whites and textured reds.
Garalis produces a diverse range of wines under mild or low-intervention regimes, including retsina, dry whites and rosés, orange wines with extended skin contact, and reds from Limnio. Fermentations are typically spontaneous, with minimal added sulphur, and there is an experimental approach in the cellar to explore the range of expressions from each variety. The 'Terra Ambera’ series of skin-contact Muscat explores different extraction times, while Limnio appears in both gentle and more structured forms.
