Garalis Limnio 'Short Skin'

Unsurprisingly Limnio is a native of Limnos. Many claim it is the oldest grape still in existence. Whatever the truth is, this ‘short skin’ refers to the length of time the wine is fermented on skins. Its semi carbonic maceration accounts for its light tawny red colour and its wild strawberry scents. The flavours continue on the strawberry theme and there is plenty of tannin and some nice balancing acidity. A minimum intervention wine showing real originality.

Garalis Winery, Limnos, Aegean Islands

The Garalis winery started producing wines in 2007. It’s located in the main viticulture zone on Limnos and the area of ‘Kourouni’ near the village of Agios Dimitrios. Over 45-year-old vines of both Muscat of Alexandria and Limnio varieties are cultivated organically and used to produce low-intervention white, orange, and red wines.
