Mylonas Winery, Keratea, Attica

Mylonas Winery was founded in 1917 in Keratea, eastern Attica, by Antonis Mylonas. In the early years, fermentations took place in amphorae, as stainless steel tanks were not yet part of local winemaking. Now run by the third generation, Stamatis Mylonas farms 12ha of vineyards located from 80–200 metres above sea level. The soils are mainly limestone and schist, with pockets of gravel. Surrounded by the sea, the maritime influence of Attica brings mild winters and cooling summer breezes, ideal conditions for viticulture. Mylonas has become synonymous with the Savatiano variety, the traditional variety of the region, for which they have won many awards. From Pét-nat to orange, traditional single-varietal, and Retsina, Savatiano shows great strength and versatility, perhaps best in their Hunter Valley-style late-release Cuvée Vouno.
