Bizios Estate 'Symposium' Organic Agiortiko

Nemea’s main red wine grape is Agiorgitiko. Nicely dark purple colour, powerful bramble, blackcurrant, some wild herbs. A bit of leather, nice mouthfilling dark red fruit, robust and exuberant body with soft, well-made tannins and rich flavor. This is powerful, but the high altitude of Bizios’ vineyards adds some welcome freshness to the wine. Nice to dink lightly chilled like a Loire Cabernet Franc.

Bizios Estate, Nemea, Peloponnese

Elias Bizios is the son of a viticulturist born and raised in Asprokampos, Nemea, a mountainous village at an altitude of 900 meters. The winery, which is surrounded by lush green vineyards in the valley shaped between the mountains of Ziria and Gavria, is 14 miles north-west from Nemea and to the east of the legendary Stymphalia lake (where the oenophile Hercules accomplished his first two feats).

The privately owned vineyards of 10ha extend to an altitude of 850m in the village of Asprokampos, at the highest point of PDO Nemea. The vineyards have been certified organic for almost 30 years, are dry-farmed, and have very low yields, producing great concentration and quality in the wines. The varieties cultivated on the estate include Agiorgitiko, Moscofilero, and Malagousia.
