Marianna's Pies are produced by a women's co-operative in Halkidiki, northern Greece, using hand-made filo pastry, produced daily and filled with fresh, local ingredients to a traditional recipe.
Their Vegan Spinach Pie is filled with a combination of spinach, onion, leeks, spring onion and dill and of course no eggs or butter are used in the pastry or filling. Traditionally eaten during Lent, as a nistisimi spanakopita (fasting spinach pie)!
Ingredients: spinach (30%),Â wheat flour (26%),Â onions (19%), leeks (10%), partially hydrogenated margarine (8%), spring onions (5%), dill, sunflower oil, salt, olive oil, pepper. Contains gluten and may contain traces of sesame and nuts.
Cooking instructions: Remove the tray from its packaging and put straight into a low shelf in your oven without pre-heating and set to 220oC until it begins to rise (about 15min). Take it out, cut into pieces and return it to the oven at 180oC until golden brown (about 45 min). Ensure it is cooked through before eating.Â
