Saffron (Krokos in Greek) was one of the most popular spices of the ancient world, valued for its colour, flavour and medicinal properties. Kozani, in north-west Greece, is a PDO region, run by a co-operative, who grow and hand pick saffron crocuses. Greek saffron is considered one of the best quality saffrons in the world.
