Halvas Drapetsonas is considered the best in Greece since 1924 and is still prepared with the traditional method, by hand, in their small workshop in the neighbourhood of Drapetsona.
Halvas is a traditional sweet found from India to Greece and North Africa, and particularly across the Middle East. The most popular Greek version is prepared from sesame seeds which are ground to make tahini, to which sugar is added, and kneaded together by hand to produce the long threads and unique texture of traditional halva. This recipe is flavoured with cocoa, that produces a marbled pattern in the halva. Usually eaten as a dessert, it can also be eaten as a snack, it combines well with yogurt, fresh or dried fruit and bread.
